Seattle Art Museum

In June 2020, education programs coordinator Rayna Mathis and I developed the Lunchtime Lessons IGTV seriesAiming to highlight Black artists and activists' voices on the Seattle Art Museum Instagram, we facilitated conversations with Alliyah Logan, Luis Hernandez, Uzo Ngwu, and Cliffannie Forrester.

Before this program's inception, teen education at SAM operated on a separate Instagram (@samteens). Its followers mainly comprise local youth. The Museum's primary social media, boasting nearly 100,000 followers, serves a larger and more diversified demographic. By sharing youth content on this platform, I hoped I could help illuminate new perspectives on sociopolitical issues for a wide-ranging audience.

Since the first four Lessons, SAM has continued to livestream young people discussing culturally relevant topics on a regular basis. Although I am no longer the series' sole host, these new episodes heed the structure I originally envisioned.
